Native Tree Planting
We have planted many New Zealand native trees in the school. All classes were able to take part in planting the trees and learning more about them. Thank you to the Auckland City Council for the funding they have given to our school to buy these native trees.

What's Happening at East Tamaki School

Garden to Table Project

This year we have increased the size of our vegetable garden. We also have many more dedicated volunteers. This increase has allowed us to offer this amazing experience to more of our students. The students continue to enjoy planting, harvesting, cooking and eating many of the fruits and vegetables we grow in our gardens. They are becoming experts at indentifying different types of vegetables which they may not have been exposed to at home and really appreciate the opportunity to try something new. Children willingly give up their lunchtime to sow seeds, thin out seedlings, weed the vegetable garden or just wander through to see what is growing.

Swimming Reflections:

"I love swimming and I wish that it was carrying on because it was so much fun. I did not know what freestyle was and I didn't know how to do it, but I learnt it."                           by Taylor

"I'm so glad that we have swimming lessons and I know how to swim freestyle. I also know how to dive under the water. I really miss swimming because it's over now. I wish we had stayed there the whole day."                                                                                                                 by Emeline

"It was so sad because we stopped swimming lessons. It was so cool when we were going to the swimming pools to learn how to swim. I learnt how to swim freestyle."       by Haze

"I love swimming, we were good at swimming. I like how they showed us how to kick our legs."                                                                                                                                  by Berlinda

Inquiry Learning

In Term 2 East Tamaki students studied natural disasters. They researched and learnt all about earthquakes, volcanoes, tornadoes and tsunamis. All classes worked very hard and produced fantastic displays showing written facts, pictures and models.
