EAST TAMAKI SCHOOL
Kia Kotahi Tatou - Let us come together as one
Expectations

Learning:

  • Children come to school to learn and have fun
  • In order to learn, children must be at school everyday. Absences are very disruptive to learning.
  • Parents are expected to listen to their child read the books they bring home and talk about these.
  • Parents should make sure that their child brings their book bag to school each day.
  • When children have homework to do parents should help children develop good habits by encouraging them to do their homework at a certain time before dinner or before they are allowed to watch TV.

Attendance:

  • All children are to be at school by 8.30 am but not before 8.00 am.
  • If a child is away please phone the school on 274-9246.
  • All children are expected to come to school every day unless they are very sick or there is a significant reason for them to be away.
  • If a child is away for 2 or more days without notification the truancy officer will be informed.
  • The school organises meetings for parents to develop a partnership between home and school. This partnership enhances children’s learning. It also informs parents about how to work together with the school to improve children’s achievement.

Behaviour

At East Tamaki School children are expected to make appropriate choices for their own behaviour. Children should be in the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing. This includes listening carefully and following instructions quickly.

Values

We have eight school values. They are:

Respect Tolerance Trustworthness Commitment
Fairness Honesty Perseverance Integrity

We have behaviour management procedures which include rewards for good behaviour and consequences for inappropriate behaviour. There are many ways that we reward good behaviour including certificates and Kapai Gold Awards.

If children behave inappropriately they may have time out in another room, or talk with senior staff or principal. If the behaviour is very serious or persistent, we will phone the parent to come to school to discuss this.
